WORKSHOP ON THE SAFE USE OF ELEVATORS AND ESCALATORS

 A workshop on the safe use of elevators and escalators was held on 16th of September for the students of the primary section.  It was conducted by Ms. Ritu A. Juneja and Ms. Neeta Deole from the Hitachi Company.

 

A film was shown to educate the students about the do’s and don’ts while riding elevators and escalators. A quiz was conducted and each student was given a colouring book. It was a great learning and informative session for all.

 

 

RUBRIC DESIGN WORKSHOP FOR TEACHERS

 Ms. Deblina Chakraborty and Ms. Sudha Aggarwal from Educational Initiatives conducted an interactive and informative workshop for teachers on 13th September.  The use of designing multi staged assessment tasks and the advantages of a clear and well defined marking scheme as a motivator to enhance student performance were discussed.  Stress was laid on the effective use and design of Rubrics for assessment.   

 

INTER- SCHOOL POOKALAM FLORAL DECORATION COMPETITION ON ONAM

To provide a panorama to the students about the diverse culture of India and to augment creativity and imagination, St. George’s School, Alaknanda held an Inter-School Pookalam Floral Decoration Competition on Friday, 9th September 2011 in the school premises.

The competition was open for the students of class VI-XII. A large no. of schools participated in the competition. The school wore a festive look with strings of flowers and lamps everywhere and beneath them were intricate designs welcoming the guests.

The colourful floral rangolis exquisitely laid out in the C-block of the school campus were indeed a thing of beauty that served as a symbol of the Onam function. It was a two hour long competition in which DEEPALAYA SCHOOL, KALKAJI EXTN. created magic with flowers and won the competition.

The host school did not participate in the Competition. Keeping the festive spirits high the staff wore traditional Kerela  dresses. It was a great feeling to see so many smiling faces all around. It was really a memorable day in the history of St. George’s School.

 

A LIVELY &  COLOURFUL SHOW WITH PUPPETS

A colourful and lively story telling show with puppets was staged for the young Georgeans of classes I to V at St. George’s School, Alaknanda, New Delhi. Honourable Principal Ma’am, Dr. Sara George and Respected Mihika Ma’am graced the event. The theme of the competition was folk tales or fables. Student’s performance was full with energy and fervor along with colourful props and vivid puppets. The talent of the students was praised by one and all.

SUPPLEMENTING OUR OBSERVATIONS THROUGH SCIENCE

The Science Exhibition by the Junior Section at St. George’s School was held with great enthusiasm and fanfare on 26th August, 2011. The exhibition was inaugurated by Honorable Principal Ma’am Dr. Sara George accompanied by Respected Mihika Ma’am.

The budding scientists of the Primary Section presented many creative exhibits. Young auditory learners, of Class I, elucidated and enunciated on the finer points of sound, supporting their learning with experiments and effectively drawing inferences on its best transmitted medium. Class II made an appealing presentation on the properties of Air and Water, and clearly validated their points by showing that air occupies space, and water takes the shape of the container it is poured into.

Opening a vista of opportunities, such exhibitions are where ideas begin to bloom, teaching about the diverse applications of Science. In this vein, Students of Class III–V presented an interesting play portraying the pros and cons of Science, as envisioned through the eyes of young Aladdin.

Students of class III showcased their scientific knowledge through their exhibits on Living and Non-Living things, which was accompanied and authenticated with live tests. With their enhanced wisdom in the scientific scenario, Classes IV and V, delved deeper and much more intricately into the Human Physique, the cosmos and appreciated the life cycles of various animals like the frog, the butterfly and the grasshopper. Besides, they also revealed the hidden secrets of the greatest ‘Panacea of All Ills’ the herbal plants. It was a great learning experience, as it supplemented and corrected observations through practical application.

 


GEORGEANS QUALIFY FOR THE NATIONAL LEVEL CBSE SCIENCE EXHIBITION

Neel Priyam and Himanshu Pahwa of our school qualified for the national level CBSE science exhibition. A total of 118 model were exhibited under various categories at Guru Harikishan Public School on the 17th and 18th of August for the regional level CBSE science exhibition.

Their model titled 'Washing Carbon out of the Air' under the theme Green Energy will now compete for the National round to be held in October.

GREENING THE BUDGET

The teachers of our school attended a workshop on ways to protect the environment and to create and an informed and sensitive future citizenry on the 19th of August at Fr. Agnel School.

The workshop focussed on issues like teachers' competencies for education for sustainable development, carbon neutralization in school and integrating essential concepts in curriculum.

Selected films based on environmental themes were also shown .  Dr. Sabata was the chief guest on this occasion.

Building Leaders of Tomorrow

 Persistently persuading the creation of proactive leaders of tomorrow, the junior section of St. George’s School, Alaknanda, New Delhi held the Investiture Ceremony on the 18th of August, 2011. Little Georgeans with unmatched abilities in all spheres, who march forward positively yet patiently, were selected after rigorous tests. A play showcasing luminaries like, Mahatma Gandhi, Chandra Shekhar Azad, Subhash Chandra Bose, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel, Lal Bahadur Shastri, Rabindranath Tagore and Bal Gangadhar Tilak was staged. It motivated students to identify with their ideals and principles to carry forth their dreams and aspirations mirroring the eminent personalities great heights. Respected Principal Ma’am, Dr. Sara George appreciated the disciplined audience and encouraged them to imbibe the virtues adopted by these luminous visionaries.

 St George’s School , New Delhi celebrated Independence Day on 12 August. The occasion was  graced by Shri Haroon Yusuf, Honourable Minister for Power, Food & Civil Supplies and Development.

A kaleidoscope of colours ensued with the march past of the students, followed by the oath taking ceremony. The Chairman of the school Mr. M.G. George Muthoot urged the students to build upon their virtues and destroy their vices. The Honourable Minister in his address praised the discipline of the students, hard work of the teachers, diligence of the Principal and the  co-ordination of the management of the school. Speaking on the occasion the  Principal Dr. Sara George announced that out of 134 students who wrote the CBSE Class XII exam this year , 130 got I class, 79 were awarded with distinctions and 20 students secured above 90% in aggregate. Three students were placed in the top .25 % and twelve students in the top 1% of all CBSE schools. These students were awarded by the Honourable Minister. The Principal also advised the students to aim for long term objectives and broaden their horizons. Teachers with outstanding CBSE results were awarded with gold coins.

A dazzling cultural programme by the students was also presented on the occasion.

EXPLORING POSSIBILITIES BEYOND THE CONFINES OF BOOKS DURING THE ASSET WEEK

St. George’s was abuzz with educational and recreational activity during the Asset week (25th July-29th July). Prodding students to question the obvious and rousing them to think beyond the realm of books, the Asset week encapsulated a number of fun filled activities for the students. Throughout this perceptive week, students unveiled their latent talents, and sharpened their inquisitive skills, subsequently, instilling in them a desire to explore and experiment, while looking for possible solutions. Conjuring up ideas which mirrored “How the learning can be done beyond the Classroom” the students of class 3 attempted to fill their canvases in diverse hues with insightful ideas, class 4 made thought provoking collages while class 5 tried their hands at mind boggling riddles. Potential photographers and film-makers were born this week, making the week all the more enjoyable. Class 6 students captured immortal images of their inspiring moments of learning, while the class 7 got an outlet to their inventiveness by creating and recording musical jingles of their educative wisdom gained outside the classroom. Originality and expression became more pronounced as we ascended the erudite ladder. Graffiti writing and Street Play demanded forthright vision and out of the box ideas, along with team work and solidarity. Teams of classes in 8th, 9th, and 10th came together opening a gateway of ingenuity, thereby, tapping initiative from resourceful minds. As students worked on “All the world is a laboratory to the inquiring mind” these curious intellectuals made relevant points with their presentations through short films. Drawing inspiration from real life, they recorded their explorations and justifications in a Compact Disc, bringing to life their hitherto hidden talents. Besides this, the retinue of “A Question a Day” grew thicker and loyal by the day.

INVESTITURE CEREMONY

 

The Investiture Ceremony was held for the seniors on 08th August ‘11. Respected Chairman Sir presided over as the Chief Guest. The ceremony commenced with a prayer song followed by the lighting of the lamp by respected ma’am. The Head Girl welcomed the guests. Thereafter the new council members from various houses were elected and were sworn in with an oath. Respected Chairman Sir & Principal Ma’am addressed the gathering of parents, students and the council members. The outgoing president shared her experiences & welcomed the new council and the vote of thanks was given by the new president of the students council.

 


BEST PRINCIPAL TROPHY FOR RESPECTED PRINCIPAL MADAM

The  Best Principal  Trophy was presented to respected  Principal Ma’am, Dr. Sara George by the Science Olympiad Foundation for the continuous  support rendered by her towards the popularisation of Science in Delhi. A Letter of Appreciation was also presented  by the Science Olympiad Foundation for her  support in popularisation of Science, Mathematics,English & IT in Delhi.
A LIVELY AND FOOT TAPPING DAY AT  
ST. GEORGE’S SCHOOL
An Inter House Dance Competition was held at St. George’s School, Alaknanda on 27th July 2011. Respected Principal Ma’am, Dr. Sara George graced the event. Georgeans were thrilled to be a part of this colourful, vibrant and energizing event. Dancers from all houses swayed and tapped to the melodious instrumental tunes. Happiness of the children was amply evident with applause and appreciation they were lauded with. Bose house bagged the first position in the event.     
         LET THE VISTAS OF OUR MIND BE OPEN 

A workshop  ‘Effatha’ was held for the teachers of the School on 23rd and 30th July 2011. The workshop aimed at honing the life training skills of teachers to conscientiously self-discover their innate energies and grow holistic. Prodding teachers to be creative, dynamic and enthusiastic it sought to strengthen their intrinsic values by tapping their potential to the optimum by opening the vistas of their minds and perceiving a student’s viewpoint. Extracting the essence of an individual through ‘Inscape’ aided with the creation of a love and logic environment. Seeking to revolutionize techniques of art and teaching, it inculcated adept teaching traits thereby conclusively rediscovering education. 

INTER HOUSE POETRY RECITATION WITH ENACTMENT

The Inter House Poetry recitation with Enactment in English for classes VI – VIII was held in the school on 22nd July ‘11The students of the eight houses recited and enacted different poems of their choice. They were judged on the following:  Theme,   Presentation,  Costumes and use of props,   Diction and intonation .Shastri House students, who had recited and enacted the poem ‘Simon Snoot’s Whiskers’ bagged the first position, followed by Bose House, who came second. The competition was greatly enjoyed and appreciated by everyone.

St. George’s School, Alaknanda celebrated the birth anniversaries of two eminent leaders and great freedom fighters popularly known as Chandrasekhar Azad and Bal Gangadhar Tilak on 22nd July, 2011.Respected Principal Ma’am, Dr. Sara George graced the event. All Georgeans gathered for the special assembly which began with an inspiring thought for the day followed by an article on the contributions made by them. A splendid skit based on the life of the two profound leaders was followed by a patriotic song .Students of class X were adorn for their Scholar Badge performance.

 

THE HENRY SELZ FOUNDATION TROPHY WON BY THE GEORGEANS 

The Georgeans won  the prestigious Henry Selz Foundation Trophy and a certificate of commendation  at the Annual Award Ceremony of the Delhi Schools Literacy project held on the 23rd of July at Springdales school, Dhaula Kuan. Our school stood  second  by  making 520 learners literate . The award was presented by Mr. Diwan Chand from the Directorate of Education , NCT of Delhi, . >Tarun Garg of our school was also presented with a certificate of commendation for training 20 learners in one year. Prikle Nanda was awarded a cash prize of Rs.1000/- for making 7 learners literate out of which two were admitted to a government school.

A joyous moment for the Georgeans. We bagged coveted positions at the Green School Award function held on 15th July at the India Habitat Centre .

Being the show stoppers in the Change Makers category we  bagged the 4th position in the National Category out of 15,000 schools  pan India.

We also won the coveted 2nd position in the Delhi State Category.

The 2010-11 awards were given away  by Ms. Shiela Dikshit, Honourable chief minister of Delhi and members of Indian Ocean, the iconic contemporary rock band. Other eminent guests present on the occasion were Ms. Sunita Narain , director general , CSE

“We will come back for the rolling trophy”, said  Dr. Ms.  Sara George , Principal , St. George’s School,  congratulating  and motivating  her team on their performance.  Its under her able guidance and support  that  the school has been winning laurels for their exemplary work in sensitizing the students and their families towards a greener and more eco-friendly environment.

ST.GEORGE’S STUDENT EXCELS IN  UPSC EXAM

Georgean Ravi Dhawan, had always been a brilliant student. On 11-5-11 Wednesday , he proved it again when he secured 6th rank in the UPSC examination.

The Delhi resident managed to get a rank last year as well. He was able to get through the Indian Police Service, but he always wanted to make it to the Indian Administrative Service(IAS).

Dhawan who is currently training at Hyderabad, believes that the number of hours, you put in is of no importance.”It is not a question of time but of what you do in those hours. It is important not to have too many sources of information”, said Dhawan.

“There is not much of a difference between those who have got ranks in the top 10 and those in the last 10. At the end of the day, it is about faith, support of parents and teachers  and blessing s of God,” he added.

Dhawan did his schooling from St. George’s School, Alaknanda, and Delhi Public School , RK Puram. He then pursed BCom(honours) at SRCC.

INTER CLASS TABLE TENNIS(JUNIORS)

An Inter Class Table Tennis match was held at St George’s School, Alaknanda on 11th May, 2011 for classes III to V. The players played with full enthusiasm and were cheered by their classmate’s till the last score. Respected Principal Ma’am, Dr. Sara George tossed for the competition. It was a great learning and motivating experience for the students.

BIRTH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS OF

RABINDRANATH TAGORE

 St. George’s School, celebrated the 150th birth anniversary the famous bard of Bengal, Rabindranath Tagore. This occasion was graced with the august presence of the Principal Ma’am, Dr. Sara George and Ms. Mihika. This special morning was made even more celebratory, with undiluted Rabindra Sangeet being sung by the primary school choir “Ekla Chalo Re” followed by a dance titled “Hriday Amaar Nachere” based on the works of Gurudev by Aparajita Chakraborty of 6-B. Students also enlightened the audience with Gurudev’s contributions as a poet, novelist, musician, painter, playwright, freedom fighter, and an educational reformist through an experimental school at Shantiniketan.

 The prize distribution ceremony was another highlight of this special assembly.

The Principal, Dr. Sara George, handed over the prizes to the deserving students who participated in various zonal and interschool competitions and won laurels for the school with their exemplary performance.

SCHOLAR BADGE CEREMONY

Deserving young, goal achievers of the Primary Wing were felicitated in the Scholar Badge Ceremony by Respected Principal Ma’am, Dr. Sara George at St. George’s School, Alaknanda. These talented Georgean’s who worked steadily to achieve their goals received certificates, scholar ties and Scholar Badges on the basis of their previous year’s performances. The choir also sang a melodious hymn. The ceremony ended successfully with all the students in the audience promising Principal Ma’am to attain success and secure a Scholar Badge and the student compere paying gratitude to all the teachers on behalf of the students for guiding and supporting them. 

INTER HOUSE DANCE COMPETITION(SENIORS)

The Inter House Dance Competition for classes VI-VIII held on 28th- Apr-2011. It had ‘RHYTHM’ as their theme. The rhythmic tapping of the dancers filled the atmosphere with colour, music and joy. This innovation of western dance with props had beautifully designed costumes of their specific house colour. It was truly a welcome and a wonderful performance.>

St. George’s Day was celebrated on 25th of April, 2011 at St. George’s Alaknanda, New Delhi. A special assembly was held on the day which began with Bible reading followed by the school pledge. Respected Principal Ma’am, Dr. Sara George and respected Mihika Ma’am graced the occasion with their benign presence. Students enjoyed the cultural programme which included a skit and the school song sung by the choir. The event concluded with the National Anthem. Respected Principal Ma’am distributed chocolates to staff and students of St. George’s. Schoolbags and refreshments to the poor and needy children of the nearby area were also disbursed to mark the auspicious day.
