![]() School NewsGOLDEN PEACOCK NATIONAL TRAINING AWARD FOR THE YEAR 2011 St. George’s School very proudly announces a new leaf in the book of achievements-the most coveted Golden Peacock National Training Award for the year 2011. St. George’s School was adjudged a clear winner by the eminent jury under the Chairmanship of Justice P N Bhagwati amidst stiff competition. The award was presented by His Excellency Hon’ble Dr M. Veerappa Moily, Union Minister for Corporate Affairs along with Justice MN Venkatchaliah, Chairman IOD Advisory Council and former Chief Justice of India, The Rt. Hon’ble Baroness Sandip Verma, Lords Minister for Business, Innovation and Skills and Equalities and Women and the Whip for the Cabinet Office, British Govt. and Lt. Gen. J S Ahluwalia, PVSM (retd), President, Institute of Directors, India at an elite function on 20th January, 2012 in Bangalore. The award was received by honourable Principal Ma’am, Dr. Sara George. Consistent proven performance records by the training initiatives taken for the students and teachers aimed at excellence in the field of education, was the foundation on which the award was decided upon and conferred. The pioneering and innovative methods adopted for skill enhancement and augmentation of knowledge in the students and staff during the academic year was instrumental in this judgment. INTER HOUSE DRAMATIZATION COMPETITION An Inter-House Dramatization Competition in Hindi for classes VI-VIII was held on 31st January 2012. Students from different houses presented the given topics taking day to day consumer problems like – Ghat Tauli Se Hoshiyaar, Bill Ke Bina Kharid Na Karna, Milawati Samaan Na Lena etc. The students enjoyed performances presented by the Houses and became aware of consumer rights. Principal Ma’am gave her valuable suggestions and announced the results.
GRADUATION CEREMONY The Graduation Ceremony was held in St. George’s School Alaknanda on 28 January 2012 for the students of class XII. Parents were also invited. The programme started with Bible reading followed by the lighting of the lamp by the school Principal Dr. Sara George. The students were awarded with citations and mementos by the chairman of the school Mr. M. G. George Muthoot. In his valedictory speech the Chairman emphasized on diligence and dedication and inspired the outgoing Georgeans to be the best in their fields wherever they are placed. The Principal of the school lighted the candles for each and every student with the message: Spread The Light which is the motto of the school. The Graduation Ceremony was followed by a cultural show. Spectrum dance, Fashion Show, Instrumental Recital and Puppet Dance were the highlights of the show. The programme ended with cake cutting followed by dinner.
REPUBLIC DAY AND BOSE JAYANTI CELEBERATION On 25th January, 2012, Republic Day was celebrated with patriotic zest and fervour. It commenced with the National Flag being hoisted by Honourable Principal Ma’am, Dr. Sara George. It was followed by cultural events, presented by the school students. A special play based on the life of Subhash Chandra Bose was also enacted. The students recalled the sacrifices made by the freedom fighters who gave up their lives for the liberation of the country. Patriotic spirits were aroused with the colourful and resounding show.
INTER HOUSE SPORTS QUIZ COMPETITION
The Inter-House Sports Quiz (Stage round) was held on 24th January 2012. The students were selected after the written round, held on 16th January 2012. The houses were represented by three participants one from each class ie. IX, X and XI.
The stage round had questions based on the national game of India, outdoor and indoor games, great achievements, adventure sports and current affairs related to the world of sports.
The active participation by enthusiastic participants marked the event.
INTER CLASS SOCIAL SCIENCE QUIZ COMPETITION
Inquisitive minds always learn better. The Inter-Class Social Science Quiz Competition was held on 19thDecember 2011.
Questions were asked on the following topics :Historical Monuments, Rulers and Leaders, Festivals, Food and Dances, Geographical Features, Important Dates and Events, Customs Traditions and Religious beliefs.
Children enjoyed themselves by participating eagerly. It was an event to be remembered.
INTER HOUSE MUSICAL PLAY COMPETITION The inter-house musical play competition was held in St. George’s School on 20th Dec 2011. The topics given to various houses were world peace, friendship, environment, patriotism, school life, corruption, unity in diversity, machines and emotions. Tilak house secured the first position and Tagore house secured second position. The third position was secured by Bose house. Special appreciation was given to Bose house for their performance by the Principal of the school Dr. Sara George.
INTER HOUSE GROUP SONG COMPETITION FOR CLASSES III – V
An inter-house Group Song Competition was held on the 16th of December, 2011 at St. George’s School for classes III to V. The enthusiastic children of all the houses sang various patriotic songs. They were happy to represent their houses and their faces shone with pride for their country. Children’s talent and choice of the songs were appreciated by Respected Principal Ma’am, Dr. Mrs. Sara George.
ANNUAL ATHLETIC MEET Lively students cheering their houses, an umbrella drill by small kids, a colourful parachute drill initiated and presented in co-ordination with the Leapstart flagship by students, edge to edge competition of scoring maximum points included the Athletic Meet of St. George’s School Alaknanda. The Annual Athletic Meet was held from the 1st to 3rd of December, 2011 in the school premises. Ms. Mihika Alexander graced the event with her presence and encouraged the participants. Students presented exercises which exhibited perfect discipline and students’ hard core practice, enthralling the audience. Numerous sports events were organized for the students. It was a fun-filled event for all.
DROP, COVER, HOLD EXERCISE IN ST.GEORGE’S SCHOOL, ALAKNANDA
Disasters whether natural or manmade can strike at any time. If we are adequately prepared, its possible severity can be effectively reduced and the impact lessened. At St. George’s School, Alaknanda to reduce the impact of such a catastrophe we have promoted a good understanding of certain life-saving tools and techniques, which when used at the time of the event will considerably control the damage to life and belongings. As mandated by the Directorate of Education, South District, drop, cover, and hold exercises were conducted on the 8th December, 2011 at 11a.m. A day prior to this activity a mock drill to this effect was also conducted.
The biggest problem with the disasters is the suddenness and swiftness with which they arrive. Hence, in order to diminish the impact the response also has to be equally swift. The exercise was conducted for classes nursery to XI. Therefore, first, drop, cover, and hold exercises were continually practiced in the respective classes with an aim to sensitize the students to protect their heads from potentially damaging falling objects like stones, walls, fans etc. A few students took cover under the desks while the others covered their heads with their school bags, while still others stood in the corners to protect themselves.
Secondly, subsequently three continuous bells served as a signal to the students to commence with the evacuation process and gather in the school sports ground. The process was done in an orderly manner. The physically challenged students were assisted by the helpers to safer grounds. Each part of the school was carefully looked into and every member vacated the school building within a matter of four minutes and four seconds. It was a roaring success.
GURUDEV NAMAN- A HUMBLE TRIBUTE TO A GREAT VISIONARY ![]() St. George’s School, Alaknanda celebrated its Annual Day ‘GURUDEV NAMAN’ on November 26th 2011, marking Gurudev Rabindra Nath Tagore’s 150th birth anniversary through a variety of presentations. As a tribute befitting this aesthetic genius, the shows focused on this multi-faceted persona that few can equal. The elaborate program encompassed Cultural Shows, Audio-Visual Shows and an exclusive Exhibition comprising the life and works of the great poet, who continues to represent a rich heritage and philosophy of India. The melodious tunes and lyrics of 'Rabindra Sangeet' reverberated in the air leaving a serene impact on the minds. In addition, the school gave a festive look with life size murals, multi-hued classrooms decorated with his paintings and other artwork, bringing to life the erstwhile era. Escorted by the Principal, Dr. Sara George, the day’s program was inaugurated by the honorable Chief Guest, Mrs. Anita Satia, Deputy Director of Education, Government of Delhi. Addressing the audience, Mrs. Satia was all in praise of the theme and emphasized that all round development did not depend on rote learning as said by Tagore. In the absence of the Chairman, Mr. M.G. George Muthoot, his message was read out by Mr. George M. George in which he urged the students to imbibe the great humanitarian’s virtues in the spirit of a true Georgean. The Principal Dr. Sara George, mentioned on the annual report and excellent performance put up by the students. A multi cuisine grand food festival also formed a part of this spectacular event. The day came to an end amid great cheer and laughter. It was an extremely memorable experience for all.

NATIONAL EDUCATION DAYA special assembly was held on 11th Nov 2011 to celebrate “National Education Day” to mark the birth anniversary of Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad, a great freedom fighter, an eminent educationist and the first union minister of education of independent India. The assembly began with a thought for the day followed by an article on National Education Day highlighting contributions of Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad, importance of Education and Role of our school in Delhi School Literacy Project (DSLP). Respected Principal ma’am read out the special message sent by the Prime Minister of India for all the students on the occasion of National Education Day. A group of junior students recited a poem titled “Shiksha” highlighting the importance of education in one’s life.INTER CLASS MATKA PAINTING COMPETITION Inter Class Matka painting competition was held on 11th of November 2011 The classes which participated were IX-XI.Children were told to paint the Matka In first four periods in their classes. For class IX theme was CLEAN CITY,GREEN CITY. For class X theme was DISASTER MANAGEMENT and for class XI theme was HERITAGE OF INDIA. First judgment was done by class teachers and best two from each section were sent for display in staff training room.Judges made the second judgement. Finally Principal Mam, Mihika mam, supervisors came to see the exhibition. Children painted beautiful matkas which looked spectacular depicting the themes very clearly through various ideas. INTER-HOUSE QAWWALI COMPETITION An Inter-House Qawwali competition for classes VI-VIII was held on 9th November 2011. Students sung Qawwali composed by eminent singers. After the competition Principal Ma’am was invited on the stage to give her valuable suggestions and then announce the results. Principal Ma’am appreciated the effort made by the houses but advised the students to pay more attention on intricate things like clapping, sitting posture etc.The results were announced with Tagore, Patel and Bose Houses securing the first , second and third positions respectively. Finally the judges were given a small token of appreciation and the programme came to an end. GEORGEAN CUP 12TH INTER SCHOOL CRICKET TOURNAMENT The Georgean Cup 12th INTER SCHOOL CRICKET TOURNAMENT, commenced on 8th November 2011. The inaugural function was attended by Respected Principal Madam Dr. Sara George ,Director Sir Mr. Alexander George and Mihika Madam. Students of class 6,7 and 8 performed a cricket drill on this occassion. The opening match was played between ST. GEORGE’S SCHOOL(ALAKNANDA) V/S NEW GREEN FIELD (ALAKNANDA)(POOL A). The final score was (144/96 runs) in favour of ST.GEORGE’S SCHOOL Tejas Singh Sidana from the winning team took four wickets and was declared the Man of the match . Birth Anniversary Celebration of Sardar Vallabhai Patel SPRING CLEANING IN CLASSES St. George’s takes immense pride in inculcating and imparting life values to students through the experiential, one of the most vital being-Cleanliness. For that reason, an intensive “Cleanliness Drive” was carried out by the students in their respective classes on 29th, October 2011. Prepared with cloth dusters, newspapers and cleaning agents, all students participated enthusiastically and actively in this drive. Along with their teachers they dusted, wiped and cleaned their benches, cupboards and windows in the classes. Besides invoking a sense of cleanliness in the students it also brought out the intrinsic spirit of team work and leadership in them. The teachers also guided the students on the virtues of personal hygiene along with the necessity of neat and clean surroundings. The Cleanliness Drive was a roaring success. At a micro level we may find areas where we could have cleaned better, but at the macro level each student of St. George’s today stands enriched with the practical knowledge that “Cleanliness is next to Godliness”. SPELL BEE BUZZ AT ST. GEORGE’S A mind boggling Spell Bee activity was organized for the students of classes 1-5 of the Primary section. It tested the spelling quotient of the students. The key thought behind this competition was to test the students’ knowledge of spellings, thereby engaging them in the English language practice.This contest helped in building ac ompetitive and challenging spirit in them along with inculcating a spirit of good sportsmanship towards spellings which in turn is an invaluable tool for language enhancement. The function was graced by Mihika Ma’am and Respected Principal Ma’am Dr. Sara George. AN OUTING FOR THE STUDENTS It was the students’ day out, literally,for the students of Primary section on the 27th and the 28th of October 2011 at St. George’s School. The students of Classes 3-5 visited the Millennium Park/Indraprasatha Park on the 27th, October 2011. The students took pleasure in their small visit during the school hours and spent quality time with the teachers playing and enjoying themselves. On 28th, October 2011 it was the turn of Classes 1&2 to go for the picnic to the Millennium Park/Indraprasatha Park. Accompanied by a number of teachers the students benefitted immensely from the valuable time they spent with their teachers. It was a happy experience for the students and teachers alike. CAREER FAIR AT ST. GEORGE'S SCHOOL An Education Fair was held in St. George’s School, Alaknanda on 20-Oct-2011 by the team of Edu Solutions Private limited for the students of classes XI and XII. Following groups put up their stalls to promote education in collaboration with foreign universities:- 1. Institute for International Management and Technology in collaboration with Oxford University Press. 2. St. George’s University providing joint degree program on medical sciences with Northumbria University. 3. Study Overseas Education consultants who represent institutes in U.K., Republic of Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and Dubai. 4. International Institute of Hotel Management – the largest hotel school chain of India. 5. My Admission info. exclusively focusing and addressing the information needs of students looking for admission in engineering college. 6. Strathclyde Skills Business School, Greater Noida in collaboration with Skill. 7. Iprof. which provides a tablet for success. 8. AFS providing creative careers guide. 9. Indian School of Business and Finance, New Delhi affiliated to University of London. 10. EGE global Education who provide guidance for global education. 11. Bansal Tutorials. The students also attended a workshop on “Career Options” with the resource person Mr. Jitin Chawla. Students showed inertest in the workshop and cleared many of their doubts in individual Counseling. INTER HOUSE DANCE COMPETITION-RHYTHM (CLASSES IX-XI) THEME: FUSION DANCES: 2 INDIAN STATES Dance is the form of communication that brings out the innermost feelings and at the same time depicts the cultural aspects of a civilization. Students of Classes IX –XI presented a dynamic fusion dance of two different Indian states. Participants in their vibrant and colourful attires with their graceful steps and rhythmic music made us exuberant and lively. The event was a display of musical harmony and kaleidoscopic colour. Principal Dr. Sara George graced the occasion with her presence. In her concluding speech, she congratulated the participants for their excellent performance and encouraged them to take keen interest in dance activities and raise the bar of performance. ENGLISH WORKSHOP – OXFORD UNIVERSITY PRESS A workshop for English teachers for classes I to VIII was held on 12th October, 2011 at St. George’s School. It was conducted by Ms. Anamika Sharma. She started the workshop with an interactive session. During the workshop expected learning objectives were discussed. She then introduced three aspects of teaching a lesson. She then told the teachers about the teacher’s resource book and the e- book which was really very informative. TEACHERS AS INNOVATIVE MENTORS On the sunny morning of 22nd October 2011, Mr Gulraj Singh Shahpuri had the audience in splits and spellbound with his captivating workshop on Teachers as Innovative Mentors. He brought home the teaching points very subtly by persuading the teachers to reflect them to choose judiciously. He motivated teachers to lead the students as creative and incredible individuals. It was an interactive and a welcome workshop for all INTER HOUSE PATRIOTIC SONG COMPETITION(JR) An inter house patriotic song competition was held on the 31st of October , 2011 at St. Georges’ school for classes I and II. LEAPSTART- A UNIQUE INTEGRATED PROGRAM St. George's School very proudly announces the introduction of Leapstart- a unique program which effectively integrates sports with academics in a fun filled manner. As a prelude , a workshop for the teachers of the Pre-Primary and Primary Sections was held on 10-10-11 by Ms. Reenika Dhall and Mr. Dinesh from the Leapstart team. Inclusive of diverse activites , it primarily aimed at sensitizing the staff about its practicality in the real life scenario. Each of the activites of the program are custom made for the students and encourage them to fully embrace sports and fitness. They also help to develop their motor, cognitive and social skills along with building academic skills. The workshop boasted of resounding participation from the staff. |
